The Neotropics and Global Change: from Cell to Earth System

Despite decades of study and the dedicated work of extraordinary conservationists ranging from indigenous leaders to first-world academics and experts, the wildlife and ecosystems of the new world Tropics are under increasing, unrelenting anthropogenic pressure.  Rainforests, marine coral and fish, savannas, riparian systems, cloud forests, and what is left of wilderness throughout the Tropical Americas are being lost and altered at unprecedented rates.  The situation demands novel approaches and attempts at not only conservation, but revision of the entire framework of environmental education.

While our courses include material and themes of Tropical Ecology and naturalist training featured in traditional upper division college courses, we highlight a range of current and future innovations from recent breakthroughs in resilient design, conservation, and energy transition.
